Who The Crafty Homestead Is
If you're new here - welcome!
If you've been quietly following along for a while - I'm glad you have been a part of our journey!
The Crafty Homestead came about a bit by accident.
Between 2018 and 2023, life brought several seasons of loss and change. More than once, the world felt turned upside down, and peace felt well out of reach. I hadn't gardened in years, but in 2023 I decided to return to it - not with a plan, but with a need for a quiet place to rest.
Escaping to the garden gave me a break from life. I knew working with my hands would keep my mind and body busy, but I didn't expect it to do so much good for my soul. I found that I felt most at peace with my hands in the dirt. It was as if, through interacting with creation, I was connecting with God the Creator on a whole new level.
That small return - to the garden, to making, to working with my hands - became the beginning of something much bigger.
This little adventure led to so many other creations: crafting goods, producing food for others to enjoy, designing tools and systems that make life easier and more livable. And my hope is that, along the way, you'll find some peace and enjoyment here too.
What The Crafty Homestead Is
At its heart, The Crafty Homestead exists to support people who are building skill-rich, creative, and sustainable lives - not through hustle or pressure, but through thoughtful systems, practiced craft, and rhythms that actually work in real life.
Here, homemaking isn't small or outdated.
Creativity isn't frivolous.
And structure isn't rigid.
I believe that the most sustainable lives are built where craft, creativity, learning, and gentle systems overlap - and that belief shapes everything you'll find here.
The Rooms of the Homestead
This site is organized much like my homestead - it is made up of interconnected "rooms." Each room represents a core area of life and learning, and you're welcome to move between them however it suits your need or season.
Some of the main spaces you'll see currently are:
- The Kitchen/Bakery - baking, cooking, food rhythms, and small-scale systems
- The Craft Room - fiber arts, projects, patterns, and creative workflows
-
The Garden - growing plans, seasonal preparation, and sustainability
Coming soon spaces:
- The Living Room - where life and laughter happen, along with stories and studies of faith
- The Pet Room - we have several critters here, and I can't wait to introduce them to you!
- The Study/Library - I will be offering several resources and tools for all areas of the Homestead, and this will be the place to utilize all of those
All of the rooms are distinct, but they are designed to support each other - because life doesn't live in neat categories or boxes.
About the Shop
Alongside the blog, stories, resources, and learning content, you'll find The Crafty Homestead Shop filled with things meant to support the journey happening here. Some items are things I've produced, created, or grown myself - bakery items, craft supplies, handmade items, planners, guides, and resources. Others are thoughtfully chosen companion products or tools that fit and support the rhythm and values of the homestead.
The goal isn't more.
The goal is useful, reusable, and supportive.
About the Blog
The blog is where I think out loud.
You'll find practical posts, systems, breakdowns, seasonal reflections, and behind-the-scenes looks at what I'm building - both personally and through The Crafty Homestead.
Some posts naturally connect to tools or products.
Some exist simply to support clarity, learning, or encouragement.
Both belong.
Staying Connected
If you'd like to stay connected beyond the blog, I'd love to have you join me.
- I share seasonal rhythms, works-in-progress, and day-to-day glimpses on social media
- The email list is where I send seasonal letters, helpful resources, and occasional product announcements when something new opens or is ready
I'm thoughtful about email - no constant noise, just useful things aligned with the season.
Where to Start
If you're not sure where to begin, I recommend starting in the Kitchen.
The kitchen is where rhythms are easiest to feel - daily, weekly, seasonally - and it's the first place I'm releasing a full Kitchen Rhythm Systems Guide this January.
If you bake, cook, plan meals, or are curious about building food systems that feel supportive rather than stressful, that's a good place to pull up a chair.
You don't need to do everything here.
You don't need to start at the beginning.
Take what fits your season.
Leave the rest for later.
Thanks for being here,
Karen @ The Crafty Homestead
