January 2026: Rooted Foundations — Building from Presence, Not Pressure
Share
There’s something about January mornings, isn't there? The house feels quieter. The air feels clearer. Even the light through the window seems slower, softer—like it’s inviting you to pause before the year picks up speed.
But the world can often be whispering (or even shouting) right now too:
Set the goals.
Make the plans.
Build something bigger.
Move faster.
January promises a fresh start, but it often brings a side of urgency that leaves us breathless before we've even begun.
But what if January isn’t meant to be loud? What if it’s meant to be structural? In my own journey, I've learned that movement is not the same as stability. And that Speed is not a substitute for Foundation.
Jesus tells a story in Matthew 7 about two builders. At first glance, they look exactly the same. Both listened, both invested effort, and both built something visible. The difference wasn't their talent—it was what was happening underground.
- The Rock: Requires digging. It's slow, invisible, and doesn't get much applause.
-
The Sand: It's fast and easy. It looks great... until the clouds roll in.
The prophet Haggai once told people who were working themselves to the bone to "Consider your ways" (Haggai 1:5). They were sowing much but bringing in little. They were earning wages only to put them into a "bag with holes."
I’ve been there—maybe you have too? It’s possible to be productive and still be misaligned. Activity without God’s presence at the center is just a recipe for a very tired heart.
So, how do we actually "dig" when the world is telling us to "run"?
- Audit the Noise: Identify one "urgent" voice (like a social media trend or a pressure-filled goal) and give yourself permission to set it down for a week.
- Find the Bedrock: Spend five minutes in stillness before you check your phone. Let the first words you hear be His, not the world's.
- Prioritize the Invisible: Do one small act of faithfulness today that no one will ever see or "like" on an app.
💡 Neighbor Tip: The "5-Minute Foundation"
Don't feel like you have to spend two hours in deep study to "count" as building on the rock. Sometimes, the strongest foundation is simply whispering, "Lord, I’m building today with You," while you fold the laundry or start the car. It’s about the direction of your heart, not just the duration.
This month, we aren't chasing momentum; we are reinforcing structure. I hope you feel encouraged to slow down. You have "permission" to be steady rather than fast.
Imagine stepping into February not frantic—but grounded. Not reactive—but rooted. That is the invitation of a Christ-centered January.
I am so glad you’re here in the journey with me. Let’s build something that lasts.
